There is some difference between the word "fortune-telling" and "psychic reading".
Fortune-telling is the practice of predicting events by means of cards, candles, crystal balls or other divination tools while psychic reading are more than just that.
In a psychic reading, the person conducting it give insights on what is happening in a person's life and give options on how to address the underlying problems or issues. The psychic reader can also see the past experiences of his or her client to pin point some issues that need to be addressed in order for the client to have a peaceful life in the present.
Fortune-telling is only limited to predicting the future while psychic reading is all about understanding the past and present to create a better future.
Nowadays, psychic reading becomes interchangeable with the word fortune-telling. I prefer to use the latter because it has a classical vibration.
